Dr Stylianos Yiatros
Stylianos (or Stelios, as he is most commonly known) is a Marie Curie Fellow at Cranfield Energy of Cranfield University in the UK and is a Lecturer in Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology, since October 2011. Before the commencement of his current employment, he was a Lecturer in Structural Design in the School of Engineering of Brunel University in London. His research interests include modelling instabilities in thin-walled, sandwich and laminated structures, sustainable construction and engineering sustainability.
Stelios is also interested in innovative teaching methods for engineering education. When it comes to teaching, he believes in exercising Dan Pink's three principles for motivation: Mastery, Autonomy and Purpose, thus allowing students to build up their own knowledge base and skills, while working methodically on interesting projects.
Stelios is also the Co-founder of Chrysalis LEAP, the first business accelerator for Cleantech ideas in Cyprus, which has been working with Climate-KIC to organise ClimateLaunchpad national programmes for Cyprus and Greece..
